Bratislava W-end Break Sample Itinerary
Frequent flight connections make Bratislava a perfect weekend break destination. The following itinerary is a sample that can be tailored to suit the needs of both individual clients or groups. In addition, we can arrange theme weekends for groups with special interests − railway buffs, for example, or opera lovers, or visitors interested in exploring Jewish heritage. Also, with Vienna just an hour away, we are also happy to organize day trips to the Austrian capital.
Thursday Afternoon: Arrival at Bratislava/Vienna Airport and transfer to the hotel. Enjoy leisure time in Bratislava’s beautifully restored Old Town, well-known for its many excellent restaurants and cafes.
Friday Morning: Walking tour of Bratislava’s Old Town, a protected pedestrian zone. Visit St. Martin’s Cathedral, where eleven Hungarian kings were crowned; the neo-Classical Primate’s Palace, where the Pressburg Peace Treaty between Austria and France was signed in 1805, and the Main Square with its craft market. Free time in the afternoon to shop. Evening: Dinner at a typical Slovak restaurant featuring local specialties from the Small Carpathian region.
Saturday A tour of the Small Carpathian wine region. Visit quaint wine-making villages, a famous Modra ceramics factory and the Renaissance Cerveny Kamen [Red Stone] Castle, a heavily fortified residence of the mighty Palffy family. The day’s gastronomic highlight will be a feast of roast goose − a local specialty − accompanied by a selection of the best Slovak wines. In the evening, attend an opera performance at the Slovak National Theater.
Sunday Spend the morning visiting one or more of the city’s museums; or visit ancient Devin Castle, perched on a spectacular crag outside town overlooking the point where the Morava River flows into the Danube. Afternoon: transfer to Bratislava/Vienna Airport and homebound flight.
