Hotel Surroundings
Beyond AquaCity by foot - Spišská Sobota Spišská Sobota is one of the best preserved historical settlements in Slovakia and it is one of the six 'Royal Towns' established in the 12th century. In the centre of the town, there is one of the best preserved Renaissance squares in Europe, and it seems that time here has not move for 400 years. And it is right on the doorstep of AquaCity. The village has a range of discrete hotels and bars, if you just want to sit and savour the atmosphere, or there is a museum with a wide range of artefacts and local handicrafts. Church of St. George is the dominant building on the square. Its magnificently carved Late Gothic wing altars, as well as the main altar carvings, are from the workshop of Master Paul from Levoca and are well worth a visit. Spišská Sobota is included in UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
The town of Poprad Ten minutes walk West from AquaCity will bring you into the heart of Poprad. This bustling town of 55,000 people is the gateway to the High Tatras and is well supplied with everything even the most demanding of tourists could want. There are lots of bars, cafés and restaurants, as well as shops and small, quaint kiosk type gift emporiums selling souvenirs and local handicrafts.
Beyond AquaCity by train – Tatranská Lomnica, 850 metres above the sea level The largest of all Tatra settlements Tatranská Lomnica is a busy tourist centre, offering ski slopes in nearby Skalnaté Pleso, good transport connections, and the Museum of the National Park, as well as the botanical gardens of the Park's Nature Exposition. Tatranská Lomnica is also a hub from which you can take a range of cable cars, and ski lifts will take you further up into the Tatras. Štrbské Pleso, 1335 meters above sea level This is the highest settlement in the High Tatras, and originally founded around a 20 hectare lake, the second largest on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. From Štrbské Pleso, hikers can head for the Mengusovská Valley, the mountain hotel at Popradské Pleso and its neighbour, the Symbolic Cemetery.
